1Comparative assessment of pediatric right ventricular volumes and function by MRI: right horizontal long axis versus short axis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Accurate and reproducible assessments of right ventricular (RV) size and function are important for clinical decisions. RV volume assessment by CMR has been traditionally performed using a short axis orientation (SAX). This projection, however, renders en-face views of the mitral and tricuspid valves. Distinction between atriums and ventricles can be difficult, which can complicate contour tracings for ventricular function. To improve reproducibility, alternative orientations for RV assessment have been proposed. This investigation sought to compare right horizontal long axis (RHLA) and SAX reproducibility in a pediatric cohort.

Determination of right ventricular volume and function using multiple axially rotated MRI slices.
BACKGROUND The conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) method for right ventricular (RV) volume and motion, using short-axis (SA) orientation, is limited by RV anatomy and shape. We suggest an orientation based on six slices rotated around the long axis of the RV, rotated long axis (RLA). MATERIALS AND METHODS Three phantoms were investigated in SA and RLA using cine balanced steady...
متن کاملComparison of short and long axis methods in cardiac MR imaging and echocardiography for left ventricular function.
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to compare long axis and short axis methods in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and echocardiography for the evaluation of left ventricular function and mass. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study included 15 patients with a history of myocardial infarction and 5 patients with normal ventricular function who were examined with cardiac MRI and echocardi...
متن کاملEffects of slice orientation on reproducibility of sequential assessment of right ventricular volumes and ejection fraction: short-axis vs transverse SSFP cine cardiovascular magnetic resonance
BACKGROUND Test-retest reproducibility is of utmost importance in follow-up of right ventricular (RV) volumes and function; optimal slice orientation though is not yet known. We compared test-retest reproducibility and intra-/inter-observer variability of right ventricular (RV) volumes and function assessed with short-axis and transverse cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). METHODS Eighte...
متن کاملShort axis versus axial Cine SSFP MR imaging for assessment of right and left ventricular function: intrapatient correlation with phase-contrast flow measurements
Background MRI is deemed standard of reference for assessment of ventricular volumes and function. However, it remains unclear if the RV can also be adequately assessed in SAO orientation as used for assessment of LV function or requires dedicated axial-Cine imaging. Additional axial-Cine acquisition adds 10-15 min of scan time and thus has a substantial impact on clinical workflow and patient ...
متن کاملModified RV short axis series--a new method for cardiac MRI measurement of right ventricular volumes.
PURPOSE The current standard image orientation employed in the MRI assessment of right ventricular volumes uses a series of short axis cine acquisitions located with respect to a horizontal long axis view with the first slice placed across the atrio-ventricular valve plane at end diastole. Inherent inaccuracies are encountered with the use of this image orientation due to difficulty in defining...
